Can I upgrade a United flight with miles?
Yes. Upgrade awards apply to eligible paid United tickets and have priced dynamically since late 2025; members without status typically add a cash co-pay, and Basic Economy fares are excluded. Check the upgrade offer on your reservation first, then buy the miles it asks for.
Do United miles expire?
No. MileagePlus miles haven't expired since 2019, with no activity requirement while your account stays open.
